Christopher Newton, M.D., FAAO, is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in cornea and refractive surgery, and diseases and surgery of the anterior segment. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Vermont College of Arts and Sciences and earned his medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine. Dr. Newton completed his ophthalmology residency at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York, followed by a fellowship in external disease and refractive surgery at the University of Minnesota, one of the nation's leading programs for advanced corneal subspecialty training. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at Brown University's Warren Alpert Medical School.

Dr. Newton brings specialized expertise in the surgical and medical treatment of corneal and anterior segment disease, including keratoconus, Fuchs' dystrophy, corneal ulcerations, ocular surface disorders, and dry eye. He also performs refractive surgery and modern cataract surgery incorporating presbyopia-correcting lenses and advanced techniques to reduce astigmatism. After completing his fellowship, Dr. Newton joined New Hampshire Eye Associates in Manchester, where he built an active practice over four years before relocating to Rhode Island in November 2008 to join the Rhode Island Eye Institute.
