Earle Scharff, O.D., is an optometrist who has practiced for 40 years and has been part of Koch Eye Associates since 2004. He earned his Doctor of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1984, after completing a Bachelor of Arts in zoology at The University of Texas at Austin. His clinical focus is primary eye care, including prescribing eyeglasses and treating eye infections and inflammation, alongside an advanced specialty contact lens practice. Patients seek him out for keratoconus diagnosis and management, dry eye care, and myopia management with specialty lenses. He fits the full range of contact lens types, including astigmatism, multifocal, rigid gas permeable, scleral, and accelerated orthokeratology lenses, and also helps patients with binocular vision disorders, refractive surgery consultations, and vitamin supplementation for ocular health.

Beyond the Practice
Dr. Scharff serves as President of the Rhode Island Lions Sight Foundation and is an active member of the Lions Club, extending his clinical commitment to vision into community service. His four decades in optometry give him a perspective rooted in long patient relationships and the steady evolution of contact lens technology, an area he experiences first-hand: he has personally worn accelerated orthokeratology lenses for the last seven years. Outside the office he enjoys time with his wife, children, and grandchildren, and works on his golf game and guitar playing.
After forty years in practice, what still drives me is helping each patient see more clearly and live more fully. The relationships built one visit at a time, sometimes over decades, are the privilege of this career.
