Dr. Elliot Perlman, a board certified ophthalmologist, specializes in corneal diseases, cataracts, and refractive surgery (LASIK) at The Rhode Island Eye Institute. He has been performing corneal surgery for more than 20 years and refractive surgery since 1994.

Currently a full-time staff member at Rhode Island Hospital, Miriam Hospital, and Nantucket Hospital, Dr. Perlman also directs the Corneal Service at Rhode Island Hospital and Brown Medical School. He is a Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery, and teaches medical students and ophthalmology residents.

Dr. Perlman graduated magna cum laude from Brown University, where he continued on to earn a master’s degree in medical science. He received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. Dr. Perlman interned at the University of Miami Affiliated Hospitals and served his residency at Yale University School of Medicine. His advanced fellowship training in external diseases of the eye and corneal surgery took place at Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Texas, both in Houston. Dr. Perlman has authored and co-authored numerous original medical publications and presented extensively throughout the Northeast.

Dr. Perlman is the past President, and current chairperson of the IT committee of the prestigious New England Ophthalmological Society (NEOS). NEOS is the oldest medical society in the United States and has 700 ophthalmology members from throughout New England.

Dr. Perlman is the first Rhode Island ophthalmologist to offer the only FDA-approved corneal cross-linking therapy for the treatment of progressive keratoconus and corneal ectasia.
