Eyelid Correction

Our eyes are the most important cosmetic feature of our face. Numerous studies have shown that when people look at a face their first and most lasting impression comes from the appearance of the eyes. Heavy or drooping eyelids create the appearance of fatigue and age. Small surgical procedures of the eyelids can dramatically change the appearance of the entire face.

Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive surgeons such as Dr. R. Jeffrey Hofmann received the most extensive training in the anatomy and function of the eyelids and is, therefore, the best qualified to perform these procedures.

Dr. Hofmann has performed thousands of upper and lower eyelid blepharoplasties over the past twenty years and has shared his experiences with other physicians at home and abroad through lectures and demonstrations.

    • Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty – is a procedure which utilizes a small incision hidden in the eyelid crease. The skin is tightened and fat pockets are trimmed and contoured. The eyelid crease is then re-created to optimize the symmetry of the eyelid platform. Often times adjunctive procedures such as browpexy (sutures to help support the eyebrow) and muscle tightening (to lift the lashline) are carried out at the same time through the same small incision. The procedure is done with a local anesthetic, as an outpatient, with minimal downtime.
    • Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty – is a procedure that may utilize a small incision hidden just below the lashes or sometimes is done with no skin incision at all (by approaching through the inside of the lower eyelid). Fat pockets are contoured and repositioned to reduce “bags” and decrease “dark circles” around the eyes. Other adjunctive procedures may be carried out at the same time through the same small incision such as tightening the tendon of the lower eyelid or lifting the cheek fat pad to help smooth the transition from the eyelid to the cheek.
